What is foot odour?
Foot odour, also known as bromodosis, occurs when bacteria reacts with the sweat we produce on our feet. This results in an unpleasant, sometimes ‘cheesy’ smell. The feet have more sweat glands than any other part of the body, and factors such as being on our feet all day, wearing tight shoes and stress can affect how much our feet sweat.
What causes foot odour?
Foot odour can be frustrating, embarrassing and can affect anyone at any time of the year. People who are more likely to be affected by foot odour include teenagers and pregnant women, both of whom are experiencing hormonal changes. If you suffer with hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) you may also experience bromodosis.
What can you do to prevent and treat foot odour?
Foot odour is a completely normal and treatable condition, and products exist on the market that are specifically formulated to treat smelly feet. Some key ingredients which our Salt of the Earth Natural Food Deodorant Sprays contain include:
- Triethyl Citrate- a biodegradable, 100% natural antioxidant that helps fight foot odour
- Willow Bark extract- treats pain and inflammation
- Aloe Vera extract- keeps the skin on feet supple and moisturised
Our 2016 Beauty Award-Winning Salt of the Earth Natural Foot Deodorant Sprays also contain invigorating Menthol which keeps feet feeling fresh.
Wearing socks made from natural fibres such as cotton can also help prevent excessive sweating, avoiding materials such as nylon as well as making sure feet are dry before putting on socks and shoes.
